Shin Kim (김신정), a native of Seoul, South Korea, is the founder and owner of Banchan Story LLC, an integrative Korean culinary studio in New York City which provides comprehensive Korean culinary experiences from cooking classes and events to lectures and consulting.
Shin earned an MBA at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and completed her culinary training at the Institute of Culinary Education. She subsequently refined her craft at some of New York’s Michelin-starred restaurants and premier catering establishments. Shin also studied Korean temple cuisine under the Buddhist nun Jeong Kwan at Chunjinam hermitage and Chef Jiyoung Kim at Baroo Gongyang, a Michelin-starred temple cuisine restaurant in Seoul, Korea. She has led private cooking workshops for corporate clients and educational institutions and taught cooking classes through her Banchan Story Program. She was also invited to teach at select institutions such as the Natural Gourmet Institute, Korea Society, and Haven’s Kitchen. Shin gave lectures on Korean cuisine for chefs and culinary students in Johannesberg, South Africa in 2015 and led the Korean Cuisine Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina hosted by the Korean Culture Center in 2017. Her first cookbook Vegetable Dishes from My Korean Home was published in November 2016.
